Inspiration: Welcome to the World

I spotted this creative baby shower over on You Are My Fave and I need to dedicate a post to this idea!  If I ever have a baby shower thrown in my honor - this would be my first choice!  As an homage to the next few weeks of baby shower posts I'm planning (two dear friends have asked my to help with inspiration for their summer baby showers), let's kick off the baby fever with map motifs and such!

GET THE LOOK:
For this one I recommend using paper projects to carry your theme.  The map motif can make an appearance on everything from gift wrap to pinwheels - you can go real vintage and intermix airmail stripes and suitcases or you can keep it quaint.  Below are some resources for picking up map-related goodies!

Grab a map poster to frame as a backdrop for a dessert table or try to mimic the mantel display from above:

Using bamboo silverware is a great alternative to plastic - it looks better and it's better for the environment!

All that bunting had to come from somewhere, pick up map-printed wrapping paper for a variety of paper projects:

You can re-create those little drink flags in milk bottles from above:

*If glass milk bottles are out of your price range, you can pick up these plastic ones for the same effect at a lower price tag!

Spell out the baby's name or a message using these map covered monograms:

Display favors and silverware in little suitcases to keep with the travel theme:

OR you can even scour flea markets for some vintage suitcases like the ones we rented and piled up at our wedding:

You can pick up that bitty jadeite cake stand just about anywhere, put a simple white cake on there and use your map paper to string up a bit of cake bunting to embellish:

Don't forget to toss globes everywhere - find them at flea markets and thrift stores - you can always dress up a damaged globe with some DIY projects:

Shout Out: Sea Pinks

I'm sending a big hug over to Sea Pinks on Etsy.  This girl is talented - her needlecrafts are so detailed and quaint, how could you pass them up!  I've ordered several things from her in the past and I couldn't be happier with them.

Please check out these little felt birdies for a mantel scene or for cake toppers, they come in a bunch of colors:

How about a baby tomato for your crafting needs?  She's got em' in every pattern imaginable:

I ordered the quails for our wedding pie from Sea Pinks - a little floral gal and a little pinstripe guy.  They were perfect!  Here they are looking dapper on our big day:

Hemingway & Gellhorn

I've been spoiled by HBO.  Now I can watch The Wire and Boardwalk Empire whenever the couch is calling my name - and don't even get me started on Game of Thrones (I've read the whole series, and I'm about to re-read the first three).  Last night was the perfect end to a long weekend - I utilized my new hole punch to embellish some bridal shower items and I watched the premiere of Hemingway & Gellhorn on HBO.

A Farewell to Arms was one of my favorite books growing up - I've always been a bit of a WWI buff thanks to my Papa - so I wanted to see how this film portrayed one of my favorite childhood writers.  Clive Owen was the Hemingway I'd always imagined, completely rough around the edges with a bitter war-torn cynicism.  Perfect.

The story picks up when he is near the end of his second marriage and he heads to Spain to document and write about the Spanish Civil War in the late 1930s.  His anti-fascist sentiments are shared by a group of activists and writers - one of which is Martha Gellhorn, a war correspondent.

The film follows their inevitable romance and the ideals that bound them together.  I appreciate a love affair based upon adventure and a passionate crusade to show journalist truth.  I find Martha Gellhorn fascinating and I'm anxious to pick up some of her writing - after some brief research it seems she was a war correspondent for every major conflict in the 20th century.  Any woman who was such close friends with Eleanor Roosevelt must have been very spunky, bravo Ms. Gellhorn!

Did I mention her effortless waves and red lipstick....

I'm a sucker for a bullet-riddled drama, hence my affection for The English Patient (far from Elaine's opinion of the film from Seinfeld).  To get a taste of Hemingway & Gellhorn, check out the trailer!

Go get some great red lipstick.

Oh, and a silky blouse.

Kiss this Week Goodbye!

Here's to hoping you had a wonderful week - and are ready for an extra long weekend!  I'm hoping to get some crafting done for the bridal shower I'm hosting in July paired with some BBQ parties and sunshine.  I'll do a DIY post for some of the decor later on - be on the lookout!

Here are a few things that inspired me this week around the web:

A new "Living in" post over on Design*Sponge tackles the style of my mom's favorite movie.

She's right about the dress - what a stunner.

Some great florals (as usual) spotted on An Apple a Day.

Quirky matching shoes editorial from the 1940s via Miss Moss.

Sometimes Martha is a little "after the fact" BUT her summer issue MS Weddings Magazine is always a good one, thanks for the heads up Ritzy Bee Blog!

Great stuff in the Pop Up Shop on 100LC -  Ban.do and Geronimo Balloons are featured!

Now for my Anthro New Arrival of the week:

I'm a sucker for silky printed shorts, now if only my legs were tan....

See you Tuesday everyone! xx
